The Field app has been designed to work with a wide range of the most common tablets. To qualify for support a tablet must meet a set of criteria. Tablets that do not meet these criteria might still work, but specific issues caused by using such tablets will not be fixed.

As of January 1st 2024 B+W will no longer guarantee the application will work on devices that don't comply with these specifications. Future updates will only be tested on compliant devices.

If you choose to use uncompliant tablets you take the risk that you encounter problems that will not be addressed by our support team.

Therefore it's highly recommended to use a tablet that is compliant with these requirements.

Recommended Specs

The following specs are recommended:

  • OS version with security support

  • HD or better screen with size of at least 7"

  • 1.5 GHz processor or better

  • 2 Gb RAM memory or more

  • Cellular connectivity (f.e. 2G/3G/4G/5G)

  • Build-in GPS-sensor

  • Build-in microphone

  • Build-in camera

Common devices

The following devices currently meet the specifications and are recommended to use with our application.

Last update June 2023

  • Apple Mini 4 and later

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S5 and later

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 and later

Please note that some of the named tablets may no longer be supported due to the operating system going out of support since the last time the list was updated.

Full Specs

Operating System version

The tablet should run an operating system that its manufacturer still supports.
A list of currently supported versions per manufacturer can be found:

We support a version as long as there is security support by the manufacturer.

It is also recommended to never be more than 1 version behind the latest available version for your device.

Using older versions does not comply with our security policy.

Screen size

The Field app has been designed to be used on tablets only. Mobile and desktop devices are not supported.

To use the Field app effectively the following requirements apply:

  • Screen size should be 7" or bigger

  • Screen resolution should be 768x1024 or bigger

When using smaller screens we cannot guarantee that elements are correctly aligned, all information is readable and all buttons are easily clickable. This might lead to parts of the application being inaccessible and the application might be harder to work with.

Processor

To ensure the application runs smoothly, it is recommended to have a processor with a clockspeed of at least 1.5 GHz.

The following consequences can be experienced when slower devices are used:

  • Sluggish Performance, lagging and delays: The application may run slowly and respond slowly to user interactions. Actions like clicking buttons, loading pages, or processing data may take longer than expected. This can be frustrating and lead to a poor user experience.

  • Freezing or Crashing: The application may freeze or crash frequently due to the processor struggling to handle the workload. This can result in loss of data or interruptions in the user's workflow.

  • Incompatibility with Resource-Intensive Features: Some optional features depend on heavy data processing. A slow processor may not be able to handle these features, leading to glitches, errors, or even the inability to use certain functionality.

Connectivity

For some elements of Field app a stable connection is required. This includes the sign-in and closing shifts/sign-out processes. While using the Field app a network connection is not strictly required, since the app can work in offline mode. Some optional functionalities in the application do require a stable connection and won't work when in offline mode.

Cellular connectivity (network connection via 2G or higher) is mandatory. The offline functionality is intended to prevent service discontinuation when Field agents encounter dead zones/coverage gaps. It is discouraged to have WiFi-only tablets.

If an internet connection is not available the following downsides can be experienced:

  • A user can experience problems logging into the application

  • It might take a long time for project resources to load during the startup

  • Data validations might not work due to network unavailability

  • Live features such as team progress & dashboarding will not be available

  • It might take a long time to close a shift due to data processing being slow

  • Information gathered during offline mode might not be fully synchronized to our servers if you don't synchronize whilst online.

Other requirements

Some functionalities have additional requirements. To make the most out of the application it is recommended use a tablet

  • GPS- sensor

  • Build-in microphone
